5 Things American Tourists Shouldn’t Wear in Europe

hey fellow travelers mark here with Walter’s rule and today we’re in Rome in front of these Roman Forum here and today we have for you our five things most of like the American to us shouldn’t wear when they do come to Europe because I see a lot of my fellow Americans traveling around and making some fashion faux-pas and now I’m not a fashionista this isn’t about how you should dress and things like that this is my advice for five things you shouldn’t wear so you can fit in better feel more comfortable and be a little bit safer when you’re wearing the right clothes when you travel okay so this is the fashion needs to think this is a help when you travel better video okay and the first things first baseball caps you do not wear a baseball cap when you come here if I see a lot of guys wearing them yes you might be bald like me or balding slightly golden huh good a normal hat don’t get a baseball cap because that gives it away every single time and a spaceship you wear it backwards it just screams you’re from the US okay if you’re not from the US that’s what it says and when you go around you’ll see not a lot of people do wear baseball caps especially with like New York Yankees logo or Boston or whatever so do make sure you kind of stay away from that one okay second thing not to wear for my guy travelers khaki pants look Europeans they were pant they were slacks they were tight jeans stuff like that but they do not work khakis okay your Dockers you’re not bringing those to Europe you might say but they’re really comfortable yes they are really comfortable but that’s not what people wear around here so I’m trying to help you do is fit in better so you don’t stick out as the tourist that people want to pickpocket and robbed you can fit more in like a local look I don’t look very much like a local because I’m a big fat guy but that doesn’t mean I can’t fit in okay so khakis sorry guys sorry doctors people don’t bring them with you okay third don’t I have for you when you come here don’t wear athleisure wear or athletic wear when you come here I know in the US you see a lot of people wearing their Under Armour t-shirt so they’ve got their adidas pants or sports pants on stuff like that yoga pants things like that here in Europe people don’t wear the athletic leisure clothes as normal clothes they wear those athletic clothes to go to the gym to go running to go biking things like that I know in the u.s. it’s kind of a normal thing but here we don’t use it okay just letting you know that and our next don’t which kind of follows what that is don’t wear your big baggy us University sweatshirt I’m here in May and there’s a lot of us travelers backpackers here you know from colleges and they got there with constant logo on them are the Illinois logo on them or their Harvard stuff on there and it just streams I’m a tourist come rob me and you’ll notice that people around here they’re not wearing a hoodie they’re not wearing those baggy sweatshirts especially with the big graphic prints on the front so you might want to stay away from that one now I told you sometimes I messed up on these too I wear my welders world logo sometimes though you do have that and all these these are really up to you I’m just trying to help you fit in better so you can have a better time and meet more locals and not get picked on with a lot of selfie sticks so if you stick me to selfie stick these kind of things all right and my fifth on for you is don’t wear sports shoes here’s the thing as you’ll see people here in Europe wearing sports shoes and stuff like that but they’re more like city street shoes versus as like running Nike shoes or Under Armour shoes or Reeboks or whatever so I would stay away from that because you have on your normal sports shoes from the US with your white socks it is usually a dead giveaway that you’re from the US so what you might want to do is you might want to get you know I wear stuff like this you know kind of like a easy to wear slip on slip off which is great for TSA kind of travel shoe and it kind of fits in because it’s not a sports shoe but it gives me some support and I kind of fit in a bit better with that so you do have that so anyway those are my five things you shouldn’t wear when you’re traveling oh if you’re a female traveler going along with the shoes don’t bring your high heels with all the cobblestones and stuff like that you’re going to have some issues I’ve seen more than one traveler wipe out on our high heels because of the cobblestones I’ve seen some get stuck in the grate sometimes stuck in the cobblestone if you’re going to be going out to a fancy dinner or something okay you can bring them but you’re not going to wear them around tab because it’s not practical all right so I hope that helps know I’m not a fashionista but I am a traveler they want to help other travelers travel better so there are five honest it’s about things my fellow travelers shouldn’t wear when they’re traveling if you want to learn more we’ve got ten things still shocking about coming to ROM five things you love and hate about Italy all our website at Walters Worldcom we’re also on Twitter Facebook Instagram and we really appreciate your life subscription hope you have a great time here in Italy and no matter what you wear just have a good time and be safe 1. Please Note: This Video is for 35+ year old US travelers heading to Europe. Young Europeans do wear most of these styles and trends, but the 35+ European crowd do not wear them to the same extent. And the locals won't care what you wear, so this is more to help you blend in a bit better. Great travels to you all & Thank you for all the comments & subscriptions.

  2. AMERICANS NEEDS TO LOOSE WEIGHT!. I snowbird in Mexico and see so many fat Americans, it’s embarassing

  3. I presume that these dress-rule suggestions are offered to help the average tourist remain anonymous to various street pests but, don't really offend the locals in a social sense.

  4. Just let them wear what they want. Chinese, Japanese and yes European tourists wear what they want when visiting the US. Or they typical German tourist is easy to spot as well. Think about the sandals and socks combined with some shorts… also in Europe people only know a couple colors when they are 50+ which are grey, beige and sometimes brown. I prefer the colorful US seniors.

  5. Honestly this is actually wrong all.
I live in Germany and nothing is a problem

  6. One thing not to wear is your wallet-pocket UNBUTTONED! Button it up! Pickpockets are everywhere, who will pretend to be clumsy and bump into you while their partner plays with your wallet…

  7. All these things you say not to wear over here, I wear them all the time! We all know you’re Yanks because you’re so loud compared to everyone else!

  8. You provide very practical and useful advice . Even though i am from Malaysia, in my view these are helpful advices. May even a safeguard and prevention from potential thefts or burglaries. Thank you , sir.

  9. When I was in highschool literally everyone, at least the guys, wore athletic clothes to school every day

  10. To be honest, Europeans can spot an American regardless of clothing.

  11. Fat american wearing europeanian clothes looks even more strange

  12. Wearung short shorts showing your ass is seen as a no-no and so is wearing leggings or yoga pants clinging to your body. Sneakers? Everybody wears them, just like jeans. And sweatshirts with a "university of Semaphore" on them.

  13. My opinion: Wear what you are comfortable in. It is your holiday. You need to feel good during your holidays.

  14. yeah…following all your instruction just for my brown skin colour to give it away -_-

  15. I live in Germany. Everything he said is wrong. Wear whatever you want. Europeans are now fat too, they'll hardly notice. NBA and NFL logos are the "in" thing along with athletic wear. Baseball caps are worn by all ages as they are a good design. Stars & stripes are seen on all types of clothing. EVERYTIME I'm downtown I see SEVERAL examples of it.

It's not what you wear… It's how you act.
    1. Learn a few words from the country you visit.
    Please. Thank you. Yes. No.
    Hello. Good bye. Excuse me.
    Where is…
    2. When looking at maps and brochures, step aside out of the main view. Have some familiarity with your surroundings.
    3. Be aware of scams! DO NOT give to beggars. Don't take "free gifts" from anyone. Don't sign petitions. Keep valuables off your dinning table. Don't hang purses on your chair better, don't carry a purse.
    4. Leave all you ID (your home driver license you can hold) at your hotel. There's no need for it during the day. Carry just enough cash for the day and only one credit card in your front pocket.
    5. Being spotted as a tourist isn't a problem. Being spotted as vulnerable is.

  16. This is an awesome channel! Glad I found it. Great tips..I spent two summers in Europe

  17. Tracksuits shouldn't be worn in Europe? Damn you probably didn't count eastern Europe

  18. thanks for the tip I'm going to wear my baseball cap, under armour, and khakis all around yurop and flex on all the yuropoors with my American patriot spirit

  19. I'm sorry. I'm not wearing those dorky looking clam digger pants and ugly ass European shoes you see every 35+ year old wearing over there.

  20. I grew up and live in Switserland and the Baseballcap One is absolutley WRONG.

  21. wear what you want, people in Europe don't care about bullshits 😀

  22. This remembers me of the Prime Directive of Star Trek, to do nothing that could influence the culture of an alien nation.

These Tips are really weired or outdated Tips. If you go to a shoe shop, you hardly find anything else than sport shoes, and a very very small shelf with shoes to wear with suits.
'Under Armour' Shirts are popular in any age.
Wear how you feel self confident. Wolter does take self confidence and add's insecureness to your holiday here.
What is it about, to be recognized as an American ? People usually say "oh, that's new, thats cool, I want to have that too".
Cultural influence is there anyway, and American is the dominating part, mainly through Pop-culture and Hollywood.
I know the American have the strange idea, fashion comes from Milano and Paris- that's crazy, and false.
Jeans and T-Shirt came from America to Europe, and many other details followed.

Get Prepared to be naked on the beach or the Sauna, would be the better tip.
And speedos are more common, than Boxer Briefs, in some public pools those Bermuda size swim wear is forbidden, cause you transport too much dirt in, and too much water out of the pool.

  23. Sorry I'm from Germany and visited multiple other places in europe and I think none of those points is true. I mean yeah kaki pants in my opinion look silly in general and you should actually be aware that walking on cobblestone in high heels is not the best idea, but thats a different topic. A lot of people over 35 also wear baseball caps here and wearing shirts with american collega or univesity names on it seems to be kinda hip to some people here.

  24. People should wear whatever they want to wear. Loud, extravagant, eccentric!!! Whatever people want to wear they should be allowed to wear. Don’t let thieves determine how u look.

  25. I’m going to Europe I’m scared cuz I dont know what to wear and maybe I don’t fit in

  26. If your a male traveling to the U.S, leave your effing super tight Jean's at home

  27. Id like people to stop wearing these things every day anywhere haha. Part of the enjoyment in Europe is the way men dress oooohhh la laaa!!! Its good viewing!

  28. I think no matter what you wear, as a tourist, you will always be recognizable as a tourist. 🙂

  29. Some of my friends wear basecaps, so why they shouldnt? And especially younger ones wear a lot of sportshoes!

  30. American walk with bathroom slippers outside! Why do they make themselfs people laughing at them? It is ridiculous. I think they don't care how they look as soon they are fat with idea there is nothing to rescue or something?

  31. Sometimes I blend in too well, tourists keep asking me directions where ever I go (even in countries where I look nothing like the locals!), sorry, I don't know, I'm just a tourist as well…

  32. Wear a 'fanny pack' by all means but don't ever call it that in Britain. Really don't.

  33. Advice for americunts: just don't come to Europe. Stay on your dumpsterfire side of the ocean. The fact that you cunts tend to stay in your shithole country = literally your only redeeming quality. Don't throw that one positive thing away. And stop polluting the rest of the world with your horseshit indoctrination and jingoism and profound ignorance. You're not welcome here.

  34. I’m British, spend a lot of time in London and my son works in London and I disagree with most of these. My grown up daughters wear Uni hoodies, my husband, son, brother nephew wear baseball caps, khakis, sports shoes and clothes (not scruffy ones) My husband wears his London Hard Rock Cafe T shirt. In London and other European cities I’ve been too, people wear what they’re comfortable in. It’s more important to know the dress code for particular restaurants you may be visiting.
The only ‘must’ accessory I use in London and and other cities is a handbag/purse that can be worn cross-body, with a secure zip and flap opening, zip facing towards the front where I can see it.

  35. As a European, I honestly don’t care about what tourists are wearing😂😂😂

  36. Can I laugh ? what kind of shoes are the yellow one ? They look like Dr. Souse Shoes !!! Americans are ridiculous! Lol

  37. I never been to Europe but do they really pick pocket and rob tourists ? Americans. Or who ever. Hell no. I'll be like WTF get outta my pockets

  38. 100% bullshit alert. You have no idea what Europeans wear. The ONLY true thing is, that wearing baseball caps backwards identifies you as an us guy.

  39. I’d say in London and Paris you’re fine for all of these, the further you head into southern and Eastern Europe the more identifiable you are by your clothing. 1000 times more than clothes that makes you recognisable is how you conduct yourself in public, dithering around taking pictures with no awareness of your surroundings is the absolute giveaway for me. If you’re walking a busy London street during rush hour, pick up the pace! And for the love of god please don’t let your screaming children run riot all over public monuments

  40. AS an European, I can totally detect an American within seconds and it's nothing related to clothes 😛 😛

  41. You can always spot an American tourist by the bad fashion taste. Not just what you wear but how you wear it.

  42. Wear whatever you want but yeah going with those jumpers of your uni and baseball caps. No one gives a shit.

  43. I will never wear the American outfit in US so… Wear anything you like! ✌

  44. Born in the midwest USA, now living in southwest USA. If you see someone some distance away. Do not yell. Walk over to them to talk

  45. What is so bad being (or looking like) an american tourist in Europe? I am absolutely not one, but I will not take off of my head my baseball caps, neither my sports shoes because I will walk more than 10km a day. I go to Europe and I am not thinking about what are the other people thinking about me!

  46. Love the videos but the robber's dress like tourists too. Just try and not get robbed.

  47. Here in sweden everyone wears sports clothes unless youre a stockholmare then you wear a shirt

  48. You always know an American as soon as they open their mouth, they can be heard talking from 100 yards away!

  49. It is funny how Americans seem to need to scream "American". The flag t shirts, veteran shirts, baseball caps etc.
"LOOK AT ME , I'M AN AMERICAN !!!!"
To Europeans it just looks dumb to have to label yourself like that.

  50. I am traveling to Europe next month and will wear my MAGA hat what’s wrong about that

  51. Very stupid video I don’t give a F * about what Europeans think of me

  52. OKAy so I wear your suggestions but isn't me and my family staring, pointing and taking pictures of all the tourist sights going to be a dead give away ? I know when I lived in New York the muggers thieves and pickpockets would just look through the crowd and then follow whoever was rubbernecking the sky scrapers no matter what they were wearing.

  53. If I’m going to a nudist resort in the UK, what should I wear?

  54. This is true and I am guilty. Visited Rome at Easter, arrived directly from California. As normal, I was wearing shorts, sandals, t-shirt – people just glared at me. I did not understand how important Easter was and everyone, except me, was dressed formally. I could not even enter a bank, they would not open the door.

  55. People in Europe “ dress to impress”. But we dont really care about others clothes

  56. i wear all these thing u say to not use. And im a swede but who knows. i dont wear khakis though

  57. I lived in Spain for a year and traveled Europe a lot. You can spot an American from a mile away. ALL of these points are accurate. 👌

  58. Europe seems like it is more trouble than it is worth. I don't want to go on a vacation worrying the whole time if I am going to be robbed.

  59. You can wear what ever you want in Europe. And people do.

  60. Look just wear what you want as long as you feel comfortable. We as Europeans will recognise you anyway! It is not the clothes.

  61. When I was in London the other week there was an entire three generation American family dressed in NY Yankees merhandise from top to toe. I can not think of anything more unflattering for a chubby lady or a beer belly gentleman in their 50's than wearing an oversized unisex match jersey in some flimsy material. They looked as if they were a daytrip group from a home for mentally challenged individuals.

  62. 1. This is a horrible generalization, Europe is more than 40 different countries ffs… Tip nr one should be "if you don't want people to know you're an American than don't ever act like Europe is one country, that's a dead give away"
    2. No one should ever wear high heels anywhere, it's a torture device
    3. Wear what ever you want, unless it's trump merch, that shit is just wrong. I saw an American tourist yesterday with a baseball cap that read "I love Trump, he's dandy". Doing so is pretty much asking people to take the piss out of you, or worst case scenario they will beat your ass.

  63. Hide yourself in a bush and walk all over Europe
Don’t bring the bush from US we recognize transgenic bushes coming from us
